Are your aligners beginning to look a little yellow and discolored? Luckily, you can use your Invisalign cleaning crystals to give them a deeper clean. If you’re unsure how to use them properly, then keep reading for a quick guide to help!

A Quick Guide on How to Use Your Invisalign Cleaning Crystals

To give your aligners a deeper clean, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Remove your aligners and rinse them with clean water
  • Step 2: Gently place your aligners in a container with warm (not hot!) water
  • Step 3: Add a packet of cleaning crystals to the water
  • Step 4: Gently shake the container, dissolving the crystals in the process
  • Step 5: Let your aligners soak for 15 minutes
  • Step 6: Remove your aligners from the container, rinse them with clean water, and place them back in your mouth

When You Should Use Your Invisalign Cleaning Crystals

Your Invisalign welcome kit will come with a few packets of cleaning crystals. That should be all you need throughout your treatment! After all, you should be able to keep your aligners clean and clear with your dentist’s instructions, like not drinking soda, wine, and coffee with your trays in. Of course, if you do end up needing more packets of the cleaning crystals, you can always talk to your dental team about ordering more. Note: don’t use denture cleaner, mouthwash, or any other cleaning items without talking to your dentist first.

6 Additional Tips to Keep Your Aligners Clean

Fortunately, keeping your aligners clean doesn’t mean you have to adopt a cumbersome oral hygiene regimen. With the right best practices in place, you can keep them stain-free throughout your entire treatment! Here’s how:

  • Don’t eat or drink anything other than water with your aligners in
  • Always rinse your aligners after taking them out of your mouth
  • Place your aligners in their designated storage case when not in use
  • Always rinse your aligners before putting them back in your mouth
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and water to clean them each morning and evening
  • Brush and floss your teeth after each meal

The last thing you want is yellow aligners – that will just make your teeth look yellow too! The good news is that the above best practices combined with periodic use of your cleaning crystals will help keep them clean and clear throughout your treatment.
